The 10th meeting of the Conference of Chief
Executives of Arts & Culture of Oil Producing
States (CCEACOPS) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa
State from August 19th _Çô 21st, 2004 was
preceded, on Thursday, August 19, 2004, by
the launching of "
Aunty Maria", the debut music album of The Glory
Beats, the resident band of the Bayelsa State
Council for Arts & Culture.
The event recorded a huge success, after
which members of CCEACOPS inspected the on-going
gigantic Bayelsa State Cultural Centre Complex
(aka Gloryland Cultural Centre). Members
expressed their joy and satisfaction with
the fast pace at which the project was moving.
After deliberations, the meeting resolved
as follows:
- That the proposed Youth Cultural Orientation
Programme (YOCOP), which is to be hosted
by Akwa Ibom State, be expanded to include
cultural displays from each state_ÇÖs contingents,
as a way of lightening the mind and for social
interaction.
- That YOCOP should be shifted forward to between
February/March 2005, after due consideration
of the logistics to be put in place, as a
period of one month may not be enough to
conclude arrangements.
- Members considered the presence of the Executive
Governors and Honourable Commissioners supervising
the cultural sector as very important to
the success of the programme, hence it was
resolved that formal letters of invitation
be written to them.
- That each state is to participate in YOCOP
with a contingent comprising 20 youths only
for manageability, and that the host state
should mobilize youths from all the LGAs.
- That all members are encouraged to settle
all outstanding dues, to enable the secretariat
to provide the necessary secretarial services.
- That all members endeavour to submit materials
and pictures of their Executive Governors,
as well as goodwill messages from the supervising
Honourable Commissioners, which should be
submitted to the Secretariat before September
27, 2004 to enable CCEACOPS produce her maiden
news letter.
- Members also resolved that articles be sourced
for the body to come out with the maiden
edition of its academic journal, which would
contribute to the study of the Niger Delta.
- CCEACOPS members expressed their delight
for the unprecedented support the Executive
Director, management and staff of the Bayelsa
State Council for Arts & Culture are
enjoying from the Executive Governor of
Bayelsa
State, His Excellency, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha,
and called on other Executive Governors
to
emulate this good gesture for the timely
realization of the basic objectives of
the
projection and promotion of our culture
sector.
